The Amazing Traveling Girl

For one who says she never gets a "real" vacation, I've spent two of the past three weekends out of town.

My friend A. called me up last Tuesday and we were discussing our weekend plans which happened to include a camping trip in Gulf Shores. It was B.'s birthday and we decided to hit the road. Tents? Check. Sleeping bags? Check. Enough beer to stock an entire grocery store? Check.

A. and I got into town late (after a disastrous experience at Wendy's in Greenville) and picked the boys up on the beach. We headed back to the campground, got our gear unpacked and spent the rest of the night hanging out at the campground. Although it rained through the night and into the morning we woke up to a bright and sunny Saturday ... BEACH TIME!!!

I forget sometimes how lily white I am. Let's just say SPF 15 applied one time when you're on the beach all day doesn't do sh*t. And applying SPF 85 after the fact does even less.

We got bored after a little while and decided to build sand boob castles. Let's just say it's pretty apparent that my friends and I have a low entertainment threshold.

After frying myself at the beach, we headed back to the campground to get ready for the night ahead. We'd made some new friends on the beach (Rico Suave) and they'd suggested we head to Rafters to watch the game. WAR EAGLE!!!

A few hours of football later, we decided to make a late run at Wal-Mart for some (more) beer and cards. Later that night John and I decided to explore the campground. After an hour and a half and three miles we finally found home and fell into our sleeping bags. Literally.

It started raining early Sunday morning so we all decided to stay in the tents. We finally headed out for lunch to meet up with some of A.'s friends at the Shrimp Basket. It was deliciousness (fried fish and potato salad) served in a red plastic basket. Yummy seafood!!! After lunch it was off to the beach again. It was still drizzling and cloudy but I never turn down the opportunity for sand and sea fun.

After drawing a few pretty pictures in the sand (and building sand turtles and palm trees), A. and I politely asked the boys to dig us a hole to China. In other words , A. said "Dig me a hole!" And they did.

This seemed like a great idea at the time...

Back at camp we grilled out steak for dinner and the headed over to a friend-of-A.'s-friends house to party the rest of the night. We learned a new game called Shoulders. Let's just say you have to have some mad skills to play this game. It's only objective is to count to twenty. We never made it past ten.

Total sacrifice? 120+ cans of beer, 3 pitchers, a bottle of pomegranate martinis and a couple of daiquiris.

All in all, it was a great, great end to the summer. I'm ready to go again!!!
